KB975332

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use Authorization Manager to open authorization stores of the Microsoft SQL type.
  • The connections between Authorization Manager and the SQL Server databases are broken because of some exception. For example, some network packets drop, the SQL Server times out, or the SQL Server service restarts.

In this scenario, the connections between Authorization Manager and the SQL Server databases cannot be reestablished. Therefore, users and applications cannot access authorization rules that are stored in Authorization Manager.

Note: An AzMan API that uses an authorization store returns an ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED error when you try to access authorization rules that are stored in Authorization Manager. For example, this error may be returned when the UpdateCache or Submit methods are invoked on Authorization Manager objects. When the connections between Authorization Manager and the SQL Server databases are broken, the existing API continues to fail. However, the next AzMan API call will be successful when a new connection is established.
