Consider the following scenario:

  • You print a document in Microsoft Word on a computer that runs Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows XP Service Pack 3.
  • You turn off the “Print in background” setting in the Word options.
  • You print the document multiple times.
  • The printer uses the HP Universal Printer driver.

When you print the document for the first time, the document is printed correctly. However, when you print the document again, the underlines in the document are missing from the print output.

This problem does not occur when you use the same program to print the same document in other operating system, such as Windows XP Service Pack 2.
