The current version of the Windows Imaging Component (WIC) does not support the serialization of complex Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) data types that are embedded in arrays. For example, the Windows Imaging Component does not support embedded structures, arrays, or alternatives. This behavior violates the Adobe XMP specification. Therefore, applications that use the Windows Imaging Component, such as Windows Live Photo Gallery, cannot write bags of complex XMP data types to an image.

After you modify the metadata properties for an image file in Windows Vista or in Windows XP, there may be inconsistencies in the Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) and Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) values for this image file.
Especially after you modify the values of the following properties for a JPEG file in Windows Explorer or in Windows Photo Gallery, values in the EXIF format for the JPEG file may be lost:
- The Keywords property
- The Title property
- The Comments property
- The Rating property
