On a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer, you install a Web Services on Devices (WSD) scanner device that does not support event notification. On this WSD scanner, a Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) image transfer may fail.

Considering the following scenario:

• You are running a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer that has a Web Services for Devices (WSD) scanner that is installed.
• You create a scanner submission by using the Driver Test Manager tool to run Windows Logo Program testing on the computer.

In this scenario, the submission may fail, and the image is never scanned.

• You connect a Windows Vista-based or a Windows Server 2008-based computer to a multifunction peripheral (MFP) device.
• You set the MFP device to support the tiff-single-g4 format.
• On the computer that is connected to the MFP, you try to import an image from the MFP device. To do this, in Windows Photo Gallery, you use the Web Services on Devices (WSD) scan function that is included with the MFP device.

In this scenario, the import operation fails.

Consider the following scenario. You are running a Windows Vista-based computer. On this computer, you install a Web Services for Devices (WSD) printer. However, about 30 minutes after you install the WSD printer driver, the Print Spooler process (Spoolsv.exe) crashes.

Web Services for Devices: The Windows implementation of the Device Profile for Web Services (DPWS) standard, which defines a minimal set of implementation constraints to enable secure Web Service messaging, discovery, description, and eventing on resource-constrained devices.

When you try to apply the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 935276 on a Windows Vista-based computer, the attempt is not successful.

Note: The hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 935276 resolves an installation problem that occurs with Web Services on Devices (WSD)-based devices.

Consider the following scenario:

• You are running a Windows Vista-based computer.
• You use the Plug and Play service to install a Web Services for Devices (WSD) printer.
• The installation process fails, or it is canceled. However, a WSD-only port is created.

When you try to use the Plug and Play service to install the same WSD printer again in this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Operation could not be completed (error 0×00000643).

When you try to scan an image by using a “Web Services on Devices” (WSD) scanner, the scanner may not retrieve the image.

When you try to install a Web Services on Devices (WSD)-based device on a Windows Vista-based computer over a secure channel, the installation is not completed successfully. You do not receive an error message when this problem occurs.

You install a “Web Services on Devices” (WSD)-based printer on a computer that is running Windows Vista. After you do this, you put the computer to sleep, and then you wake it from sleep.
