KB958936

November 11th, 2008 · No Comments · 106 views

You use a Windows Server 2008-based computer or a Windows Vista-based computer as a proxy agent for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) devices. When you do this, Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 cannot receive SNMP trap data.

This issue also affects any application that calls the SnmpRegister function to receive SNMP trap data when the proxy agent is a Windows Server 2008-based computer or a Windows Vista-based computer.

Note: This issue does not occur if you use a Windows Server 2003-based computer or Windows XP-based computer as the proxy agent for the SNMP devices.

On a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based computer that has the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) service installed, the private memory size that is allocated by the Snmp.exe process starts to increase after several hours. This problem occurs if the Management Information Base (MIB) II Objects are frequently accessed.
