When a mail program tries to connect to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 server by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) over Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) port 587, the connection cannot be completed.
This problem occurs if one of the following conditions is true:
- You are running Windows Mail on a computer that is running Windows Vista.
- You are running Outlook Express on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
- You are running Outlook Express on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1.
Note: By default, Exchange 2007 uses port 587 for SSL connections.
