Consider the following scenario:
- You configure a computer to use the Windows Aero color scheme feature.
- You capture a screen shot by pressing PRINT SCREEN on the keyboard.
- You move or resize the target window while you capture the screen shot.
In this scenario, the screen freezes, and you have to restart the computer.
This problem occurs when the computer is running one of the following:
- Windows Vista that has hotfix 937229 installed
- Windows Vista SP1
- Windows Server 2008
Notes
- When you press PRINT SCREEN to capture a screen shot, the BitBlt function or the StretchBlt function is called.
- If you use an application that calls the BitBlt function or the StretchBlt function, this problem may also occur.

When you start a Windows Vista-based computer, the system may stop responding (hang) at a black screen.
Additionally, you may experience the following symptoms when you try to recover from this problem:
- If you restart the computer, press F8 before the Windows Vista progress indicator appears, and then click the Safe Mode option, the same problem occurs.
- If you start Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to restore the Windows Vista-based computer, WinRE stops responding.
- If you try to use Windows Vista installation media to repair the system, the system stops responding.

You use a computer that is running Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows Vista Home Premium. When you use Windows Media Center to watch a DVD or to watch TV in full-screen mode, the computer goes to sleep. However, when the computer wakes up, the screen may be black. Or, the Media Center menu screen may be unresponsive.
Note: You may still hear audio by using the arrows on the keyboard to move around the Media Center menu.

When you try to upgrade the video driver on a Windows Vista-based computer, the screen may go blank. In this situation, nothing happens when you move the mouse or when you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. If you turn off the power and then restart the computer, the desktop is displayed correctly. However, you receive an error message that states that the newly installed driver is incompatible with Windows Vista.

The built-in screen is designated as the secondary display. The computer goes into hibernation or goes to sleep. This external monitor is disconnected. The computer resumes from sleep or from hibernation.
In these scenarios, you cannot see the logon screen. Therefore, you cannot log on to the computer.
