When you view the print server information for the print servers in the Print Management console on a Windows Vista-based computer, you notice that all the print servers are not displayed in the Print Management console. You may also experience other issues that prevent you from viewing the complete information for a print server. For example, the print queue information may not be available.

Note: You may also experience this issue in the Print Management console that is running on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based or Windows XP Professional Edition-based computer.

Consider the following scenario:

  • On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you add a shared printer.
  • This shared printer is located on a print server that is running an earlier version of Windows, such as Windows Server 2003.
  • The shared printer’s status is “Driver Update Needed.”
Note: This status is displayed in the Status field in the Printers item in Control Panel.

In this scenario, the print server’s performance gradually decreases. Eventually, the print server constantly runs at 100-percent CPU utilization.

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a print server that is running Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP.
  • You try to create Point and Print client driver download packages for drivers that have multiple operating system .inf files.

However, the operation fails because the Internet Printer Protocol (IPP) does not support this functionality.
