In Windows Photo Gallery, you add some metadata to a picture file. When you open this picture in a third-party tool, some metadata fields for the picture file may be duplicated, dropped, or corrupted.
This issue occurs in Windows XP, in Windows Vista, and in Windows Server 2008.
For example, you open and save a .jpg picture in Windows Photo Gallery, and then you embed some metadata into the picture by using a third-party application. When you open this picture in Adobe Photoshop, you receive an error.
In this example, if you open the .jpg file in a hexadecimal editor, you see duplicated XMP metadata tags. One metadata tag is set to xmp:xmpmeta and the other one is set to x:xmpmeta.

Just recently I got a laugh out of a post called “But I Don’t Want to be a Flower!“, a funny title that I associated with Seinfeld. The post actually has a nice, quick tip on how to change that ‘flower’ icon you get on your Vista login screen and in your ‘Start’ menu. Here’s how I changed my icon, not just to one of the stock icons, but to me! Keep reading →

Consider the following scenario:
- You are using a computer that is running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate.
- You have a folder that only contains files that have a .bmp extension (These files are called bitmap picture files).
- You start Windows Media Center in order to add these bitmap picture files to your Picture Library and to view the files.
- You run the Media Center Library Setup Wizard, and you add the folder that has the bitmap files as a watched folder.
In this scenario, even after you add the watched folder, the bitmap picture files do not appear in the Picture Library.
