Microsoft has released the June 2008 Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center for Windows Vista. This update rollup is intended for computers that are running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate.
In addition to the fixes that are contained in the updates that are listed in the “Hotfix replacement information” section, the June 2008 Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center for Windows Vista resolves the following issues:
- For Windows Media Center configurations that use an analog TV broadcast without a set-top box, this update improves the experience of recording television shows. Previously, shows were blocked with “protected content” messages.
Note: This issue does not apply to configurations with set top boxes or configurations that use analog TV together with digital cable tuners.
- This update addresses a blank screen issue that occurs when you switch between full-screen mode and windowed mode while you play videos.
- On extender sessions that use Internet TV or Online Spotlight, this update increases a maximum path limit from 260 characters to 2048 characters.
- This update resolves an issue that was introduced in Vista Service Pack 1 in which empty removable media devices were displayed in galleries.
- This update addresses an issue in which channel names in Simplified Chinese were shown as unrecognizable characters.
- This update provides an updated frequency table for China.
- This update addresses an issue in which a Client ID was not set correctly if you use the Express setup option.
- This update fixes a memory leak issue in extender sessions.

Consider the following scenario:
- On a computer that is running Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows Vista Home Premium, you have pictures that are stored on a hard disk drive.
- In Windows Vista Media Center, you use the Library Setup Wizard to add the root of the hard disk drive to the list of folders that Media Center watches for media files.
- You start the Burn CD/DVD Wizard in Media Center, you add pictures from Picture Library from the folder that represents the root of the hard disk drive, and then you start the burn process.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Consider the following scenario:
- You are running a Windows Vista Media Center-based computer.
- You eject a DVD or a Video CD (VCD) from the computer.
- You reinsert the DVD or the VCD and then resume playback.
In this scenario, the video window may appear black for five seconds or more. In some instances, video playback may not resume at all.

You may experience the following symptoms on a computer that is running Windows Vista:
Symptom 1
You are using Windows Media Center to play a .wmv file in full-screen mode. You press the Windows logo key to switch the focus from Windows Media Center to other applications or to the desktop. However, when you switch the focus back to Windows Media Center, the Windows Media Center screen sometimes remains blank.
Symptom 2
You are using Windows Media Center to play a .wmv file or a MPEG2 file (.mpg) in full-screen mode. You press ALT+TAB several times to switch the focus back to Media Center when the movie is running. When you switch the focus back to Windows Media Center from other applications or from the desktop, you receive a “Cannot Play Video” error message.
Symptom 3
You are using Windows Media Center to play a .mpg file in full-screen mode. When you change the focus from Windows Media Center to the desktop, Windows Media Center crashes.
Symptom 4
You attach a CRT monitor or any other external monitor to a Lenovo ThinkPad portable computer. You play back a DVD movie in Windows Media Center, and then you switch the movie to full-screen mode. When you press Fn+ F7 to switch from the LCD monitor to the external monitor, the external monitor sometimes displays a black screen.

On a Windows Vista-based computer, you are playing an .mpg file format movie file in full-screen mode in Windows Media Center. However, when you press ALT+TAB to switch away from Windows Media Center, one of the following symptoms may occur:
