Adobe Creative Suite 4 offers a number of services that connect to the internet to provide enhanced functionality. These services can also download updates automatically. In certain circumstances system administrators may wish to disable these connections and updated downloads. The document lists the changes that have to be made to the registry (Windows XP/Vista) or preference files (Mac OS X) to disable these network activities. This applies to the following Creative Suite 4 services:
- Kuler (Extensions > Kuler)
- Adobe ConnectNow (File > Share my Screen)
- Service Manager (Extensions > Connections)
- Search for Help (Search field in the app bar)
- Help > [Product Name] Help

On a computer has Windows Internet Explorer 7 installed, you create a disconnected network drive by running the subst command at a command prompt. When you open this network drive in Windows Explorer, it appears as Disconnected Network Drive. Additionally, the security zone for the network drive appears as Internet in the status bar.
However, on a computer that has Internet Explorer 6 installed, the security zone of the network drive appears as Local Intranet in the status bar.
Note: This behavior also occurs if you map a network drive by using the system context.

On a computer that is running Windows Vista, you try to use the Verizon speed optimizer tool to optimize network performance. When you change an Internet shortcut file on a Windows Vista-based computer, and then you try to open the shortcut file in Windows Internet Explorer 7, the shortcut file does not link to the expected URL. This problem occurs if all the following conditions are true:
- The User Account Control (UAC) feature is turned on in Windows Vista.
- Protected mode is enabled in Internet Explorer 7.
- You are running an application that installs a global hook procedure by using the SetWindowsHookEx function.
- The Internet shortcut file is saved in the Desktop folder.
