When you try to install updates to Adobe Creative Suite 4 or a CS4 point product, the installation stops and you receive the Microsoft Windows error “Adobe Setup has stopped working; Windows is checking for a solution to the problem….”
The only option is to cancel the installation; Windows is unable to find a solution.
The error recurs for each update you chose to download and install.
You may also receive the error “Installation Incomplete; [update name]: Failed to install. The installation process has encountered a problem. Please choose from the following options: Cancel the current update and continue installing the remaining updates. OR Stop installing and continue later: OK.”
Attempts to install the updates can also fail due to an unexpected state of the affected files from the previous failure. In this case, the Adobe Installer reports that it could not install the selected update components.
Functionality associated with the update might also be impacted. For example, after a failed installation of the Adobe Drive and Services update v1.0.1, you may experience the following issues:
- When you attempt to open, create new, or save a file using Photoshop CS4 you encounter the following or similar error:
“Photoshop.exe – Fatal application exit – The specified module could not be found: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1\VersionCue.dll.”
- When you right-click a menu in Windows Explorer in Windows Vista, you encounter the following or similar error:
“Explorer.exe – The specified module could not be found: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1\VersionCue.dll.”

A user tries to install a networking component (like a network Protocol, NDIS IM or MUX driver, NDIS Light Weight Filter drivers or network Service), either through the Network Configuration Panel Applet (NCPA) Connection properties or via an application. If the user is a member of Network Configuration Operators group, any bindings that involve a filter driver (NDIS IM, MUX and LWF drivers) will not be created.
If the above user installs a filter driver, it will appear to be installed, but will not be loaded.
If the user installs a Protocol or Net-Service driver, any bindings that involve a filter driver will not be created.
The installation will appear to have succeded, and the component appears to be bound in the network stack. No visible error messages are displayed or logged. A review of the of the adapter’s properties (under “This connection uses the following items”) will give the appearance that the installation was successful.

Consider the following scenario:
- You start Windows setup by booting using DVD media.
- The DVD drive is attached to a storage controller which is supported natively by the drivers supplied with Windows. However, you wish to install third-party drivers for this controller.
- During Windows Setup, on the page titled “Where do you want to install Windows?”, you choose “Load Driver” to install the third party storage driver. You install a new driver for the storage controller which your DVD drive is attached to.
In this scenario, you may encounter the following error message after starting Windows Setup:
Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.

On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you install the device driver that you obtained from the manufacturer. However, after the installation, the manufacturer’s driver is not installed.
This problem occurs with some drivers, depending on the target system version section in the driver’s installation (.inf) file. For example, this problem occurs with the driver for Intel’s new dual-port network adapter.

This document can help you resolve problems that interrupt the installer for Adobe RoboHelp Server 8 on Windows Vista. These problems can manifest themselves in many different ways, including (but not limited to) a frozen cursor or screen, or an error.
Please note that this document does not address problems related to serial numbers. For these problems, contact Adobe Customer Service. To contact Adobe Customer Service in your region for assistance, visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/, select your region at the top right corner of the page, and then click Contact.
Different factors can interrupt the installation of an application, including the AutoPlay feature in Windows, a conflicting application, incorrect data in the Windows registry, or hardware problems. Although a system error may occur only when you work with RoboHelp Server 8, RoboHelp Server 8 may not necessarily be the cause-it may be the only application that uses enough memory or processor cycles to expose the problem.
