After you log on to a Windows Vista-based computer for the first time, the computer may become very slow and unresponsive. Or, the computer may stop responding (hang).

Consider the following scenario. You develop a Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) driver. You install the WFP driver on a Windows Vista-based computer. In this scenario, some applications and services appear to stop responding for 15 seconds when a Domain Name System (DNS) lookup occurs. This problem occurs if the applications or the services use the DNS function.

Performing a custom un-install of the graphics driver results in the Vista operating system failing to respond

n Windows Vista, Microsoft Office Access may stop responding when you open a remote database that is already open on another Windows Vista-based computer.

If a program stops responding in Windows Vista, top-level windows that are owned by the program may be replaced by a ghost window until the program resumes. When the program resumes, windows that use the WS_EX_LAYERED extended window style may appear corrupted.

When you try to use a Windows Vista-based computer behind a firewall device, network connectivity may fail. When network connectivity fails, you may see the following symptoms:

• Programs may respond slowly.
• Programs may stop responding.
