KB951521

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are running a Windows Vista-based computer that has the Lzhfldr.dll file installed.
  • In Windows Explorer, you double-click an .lzh file to open the associated compressed file.
  • You drag the compressed file into a folder in the Folders pane of the same Windows Explorer window.

In this scenario, Windows Explorer exits unexpectedly. After you restart Windows Explorer, you notice that there is a new file in the destination folder. However, the file has a size of zero bytes.

Note: This issue does not occur if you drag the compressed file into another Windows Explorer window or onto the desktop.

Consider the following scenario:

  • In a version of a Microsoft operating system that is earlier than Windows Vista, you create two users, User A and User B.
  • You add the two users to the local Administrators group.
  • You use the User A account to log on to the computer, and then you create a new folder. For example, you create Folder F. Then, you add files or subfolders to Folder F.
  • You grant Read access to Folder F only to the User A account.
  • You log off the computer, and then you use the User B account to log on to the computer.
  • You upgrade the computer to Windows Vista.
  • You use the User A account to log on to the computer.

In this scenario, the User A account no longer has Read access to Folder F.

ITsVISTA Tip 57: Add ‘Copy To’ and ‘Move To’ to your Vista right-click menu

May 26th, 2007 · 11 Comments · 11,562 views

TipsThere are many ways to copy and move files from one location to another. I tend to first open two windows, one being the source, the other the destination, and then drag the file from one to the other. Cut/Copy and Paste is another common means of getting your files were you want them to go. Another option is available in Vista, as I found at the Error Forum, but it doesn’t show up by default. Here’s how you can add Copy to Folder… and Move to Folder… options to your right-click menu. Keep reading →

TipsSo you’ve downloaded a zip file and now you need to open it. Maybe you need to send some files to a friend via e-mail, but they need to be in a zip file to make the trip. Don’t worry about installing any software, Vista can handle zip files in a snap. There are many ways to do it as well. I saw a post at Maximumpcguides and thought why not do an illustrated guide to how I use Vista to zip and unzip. Keep reading →
