On a Windows Vista-based computer, the Folder versions list is blank, or you receive the following message:
There are no previous versions available.
This issue occurs when you access the properties of a file or of a folder, and then you click the Previous Versions tab.
Additionally, if you use the command vssadmin list shadows at a command prompt, the volume that hosts the file or the folder will have a list of shadow copies that are associated with the volume.

Microsoft just introduced me to a term I hadn’t heard before, but is now a feature you can use in Vista. Called SearchMelt, the Windows Vista Blog describes the feature as “Search + XML + Sharing”. Basically it’s a file you can share with others that remembers the settings for a search folder. If you’re not familiar with search folders, it’s your own custom ‘folder’ that you create based on search criteria. As an example, you could create a folder called JPG that when opened displays every jpg file on your computer. There is a small creator you’ll need to download that converts a standard search folder to a SearchMelt file, which you can then share with others. Pretty cool!
