Consider the following scenario. On a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, you use a non-English Input Method Editor (IME) in an application that contains edit controls and button controls. For example, you use the Japanese IME. An edit control uses the IME for input context. In this scenario, when you switch the focus between the edit control and a button control, the focus switch occurs very slowly.

Symptom 1
You are using Windows Media Center to play a .wmv file in full-screen mode. You press the Windows logo key to switch the focus from Windows Media Center to other applications or to the desktop. However, when you switch the focus back to Windows Media Center, the Windows Media Center screen sometimes remains blank.
Symptom 2
You are using Windows Media Center to play a .wmv file or a MPEG2 file (.mpg) in full-screen mode. You press ALT+TAB several times to switch the focus back to Media Center when the movie is running. When you switch the focus back to Windows Media Center from other applications or from the desktop, you receive a “Cannot Play Video” error message.
Symptom 3
You are using Windows Media Center to play a .mpg file in full-screen mode. When you change the focus from Windows Media Center to the desktop, Windows Media Center crashes.
Symptom 4
You attach a CRT monitor or any other external monitor to a Lenovo ThinkPad portable computer. You play back a DVD movie in Windows Media Center, and then you switch the movie to full-screen mode. You perform one of the following actions in Windows Vista:
- You hold down the NUM LOCK key for more than 5 seconds to turn on Toggle Keys.
- You hold down right-side SHIFT key for more than 5 seconds to turn on Filter Keys.
In either scenario, a dialog box appears, and you are prompted whether you want to enable Toggle Keys or Filter Keys. However, the dialog box does not have the focus as expected. Therefore, you cannot directly give an appropriate response to the prompt.

Consider the following scenario:
- On a Windows Vista-based computer, you set the Default input language setting to Chinese (PRC) - Chinese (Simplified) - US Keyboard.
- On this same computer, you start a .NET WinForm application. Then, you set the focus to a text box in the application.
- You switch the Input Method Editor (IME) to Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin IME, and then you set the IME Conversion Mode to full-shape mode.
- You switch the focus to another application, and then you return the focus to the text box.
In this scenario, the IME Conversion Mode is unexpectedly changed to half-shape mode.
Note: This issue occurs only the first time that you switch the focus. If the application continues running, the IME status is maintained as expected.

The following is an example of a scenario in which you experience these symptoms:
- You press the “Windows logo key”+X to open Windows Mobility Center.
- You click Start Start button to open the Start menu, and then you click Start Start button again to close it.
- You press the “Windows logo key”+R to open the Run dialog box.
- You type a command in the Open box, and then you press ENTER.
In this scenario, the command is not run. Instead, a tile in Windows Mobility Center opens.
