Consider the following scenario:
- You have two computers that are running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista.
- An application or service uses the CopyFileEx function to copy files from one computer to the other computer.
- Server Message Block (SMB) 2.0 compounded requests are used to copy files.
- IP version 6 (IPv6) addresses are used during the file copying process.
In this scenario, under a stress situation, file corruption may occur while copying files.

From a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you copy or write some small files into a shared folder that is hosted on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. In this situation, the writing performance is significantly reduced.
You find that there is a performance reduction when you compare this writing performance to the performance of the following operations:
- Copying or writing files from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 into a shared folder that is hosted on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003.
- Copying or writing files from a network file system (NFS) client to an NFS server.
Additionally, you may find that the Server Message Block (SMB) 2.0 protocol is being used to copy or write files.

The existing File system APIs in Windows Vista do not provide an easy way to discover and restore deleted files. A new version of the File system API is available that enables third-party developers to discover and restore deleted files from nonencrypted volumes by extending the File Management APIs.
This new API also lets developers pass a password or a recovery key file. Therefore, you can discover and restore deleted files from BitLocker-encrypted volumes. This API does not support the restoration of files from other kinds of encrypted volumes.
This API can only be used to extend the File Management APIs for Windows Vista. Additionally, these functions are only supported when you use the functions in an offline environment, such as Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) or Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE).

When some applications update very large files (1 terabyte or 2 terabytes) in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista, you may receive an error status message from the ntfs.sys driver. The error status message may resemble one of the following error status messages:
0xc0000427 STATUS_FILE_SYSTEM_LIMITATION
0×299 ERROR_FILE_SYSTEM_LIMITATION
For example, when you perform the dbcc checkdb action on a large database file, you may receive the following error message:
The operating system returned error 665 (The requested operation could not be completed due to a file system limitation) to SQL Server during a write at offset [address] in file [file name].

When you copy large files from one computer to another computer in a high-bandwidth network environment, the copy process is very slow if both computers are running either Windows Vista or Windows Sever 2008. Additionally, the throughput of the network is much lower than expected. In this situation, the total network bandwidth cannot be used.

Consider the following scenario:
- On a Windows Server 2008-based or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, an application writes to a file on a local file share.
- This file is scanned by using memory-mapped files. This scanning process typically occurs when certain antivirus software is installed on the computer.
In this scenario, additional character spaces may be added to sections of the file. Therefore, the file becomes corrupted.
