Consider the following scenario. On a Windows Server 2008-based computer or on a Windows Vista-based computer, you use an application that has the backup permission enabled. The application also uses the BackupRead API function to read stream data from an encrypted file. In this scenario, the application cannot read the stream data from the encrypted file. Additionally, the GetLastError API function returns the ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED error value.

On a Windows Vista based computer that runs Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 client, you enable EFS for documents on the Desktop or in the Documents folder. After you reboot the computer and log on again, the encrypted files cannot be decrypted.

The problem does not occur when folders are encrypted in other locations.

Also, when Symantec AntiVirus is uninstalled the problem goes away.

Consider the following scenario:

• You are running a Windows Vista-based computer.
• The computer has a Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disk drive that has full disk encryption capability.

However, when the SATA hard disk drive uses Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA) mode, the hard disk drive may stop responding. In this situation, the computer may crash.

After you encrypt resources by using the PACE Anti-Piracy InterLok system on a Windows Vista-based computer, some applications may work incorrectly. This problem occurs if the applications access the encrypted resources.

Consider the following scenario:

• A third-party cryptographic service provider (CSP) is installed on a computer that is running Windows Vista.
• You log on to the system by using a smart card that stores the user credentials and the Encrypting File System (EFS) certificate.
• You try to encrypt files or to decrypt files by using EFS.

In this scenario, you receive the following warning message:

Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now.

Then, the system automatically restarts.

Consider the following scenario. You encrypt a user’s Documents folder on a Windows Vista Business-based computer. Then, you upgrade the computer to Windows Vista Ultimate. In this scenario, the encryption attributes for the Documents folder are not maintained. Specifically, the files and the folders in the Documents folder remain encrypted. However, new files that are created in the Documents folder are not automatically encrypted.

When you try to install a hotfix on a Windows Vista-based computer in a domain, you may receive the following error message:
