Consider the following scenario:
- You have Windows Vista Home Basic installed on the computer. Or, you have a similar version of Windows Vista installed on the computer.
- Then, you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) on the computer.
- Then, you try to upgrade to a version of Windows Vista that has additional features. For example, you try to upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate.
- To perform the upgrade, you use Windows Vista media that does not contain the updates that are included in Windows Vista Service Pack 1.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
The upgrade cannot be started.
Then, you receive the following error message:
To upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of windows that is more recent than the version you are currently running.
Note: This issue may also occur when you use the Windows Anytime Upgrade feature to upgrade Windows Vista.

Symptoms:
When using a Radeon X800 GT graphics card in Windows Vista, the Aero Glass theme is unavailable.

When you try to install Windows Vista, you cannot select the Upgrade option. Additionally, you receive the following error message in the Install Windows dialog box:
Upgrade has been disabled
- Windows cannot determine if another operating system exists on your computer. Try repairing the boot configuration, and then begin the installation again.

When you try to upgrade a computer to Windows Vista, you cannot select the Upgrade option. Also, you receive the following error message in the Install Windows dialog box:
Upgrade has been disabled
- The upgrade cannot be started because the content on your installation disk is written in a different language than the language on your computer. To fix this, get an installation disk that uses the same language as your computer.
