You connect a USB audio device to a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008. However, the audio device does not function correctly. When you examine the audio device in Device Manager, you see a yellow exclamation mark (!) next to the audio device. Additionally, the Device status area displays the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Note: This problem does not occur in the original version of Windows Vista.

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows Vista-based computer that uses an Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) host controller. This OHCI host controller is Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 1394-compliant.
  • You have two IEEE 1394-compliant storage devices.

In this scenario, you may experience one of the following issues:

  • When you start the computer and connect the first IEEE 1394-compliant storage device to the OHCI host controller, the device is loaded correctly. However, when you connect the second storage device, this device never appears in Device Manager. Additionally, the first device disappears from Device Manager.
  • When you connect the two IEEE 1394-compliant storage devices before the computer is started, neither device appears in Device Manager after you start the computer.

You install Windows Vista before you update the basic input/output system (BIOS) to a Trusted Computing Group (TCG)-compliant version. If you do this, the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 device driver (Tpm.sys) is not loaded. Additionally, a yellow exclamation point (!) appears next to the TPM 1.2 device in Device Manager.

Note: The TPM 1.2 device remains in this state even after you update the BIOS to a TCG-compliant version.

After you uninstall a network adapter in the Device Manager on a Windows Vista-based computer, you receive the following message in the notification area at the far right of the taskbar:

Then, the network adapter is automatically reinstalled.

Note: When you uninstall a network adapter in the Device Manager on a Windows XP-based computer, the network adapter is reinstalled only when you right-click Network adapters and then click Scan for hardware changes.

Consider the following scenario:

  • You connect an IEEE 1394 standard-based camera to an IEEE 1394 standard-based external hub.
  • You connect the IEEE 1394 standard-based external hub to an IEEE 1394 standard-based port on a computer that is running Windows Vista.

In this scenario, Device Manager in Windows Vista displays the camera device as expected. However, when you unplug the camera cable, the camera device does not unload successfully in Device Manager.

Note: If you unplug the cable from the external 1394 hub that is connected to the IEEE 1394 standard-based port, the camera driver unloads successfully.

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are running a Windows Vista-based portable computer from a docking station.
  • The computer has a USB device connected to it.
  • You put the computer into standby (S3).
  • You resume the computer from standby.

In this scenario, a yellow exclamation mark (!) may appear next to the USB device in Device Manager. This problem may occur if the status of the docked portable computer is changed when the system is in standby.
