In Windows Vista, when you use Windows Explorer to try to copy files to an Iomega REV drive that contains a write-protected disk, you do not receive an error message. Instead, a Mastering dialog box appears in which the Mastering option is enabled. When you click OK, and then you try to burn the files, you receive the following error message:
You can’t add files to this disc.
Then, the disk is ejected.
When you insert a disk that is not write-protected in the Iomega REV drive, and then you try to burn the files, you receive the following error message:
The disc in the drive is not a writable disc or it is full.
Then, the disk is ejected.

In Windows Vista, you add the CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo registry entry to improve the speed of a file copy operation. However, when you use Windows Explorer to copy a file from the Windows Vista-based computer to a computer that is running an older Windows operating system, the file copies only slightly more quickly.
Note: The file copies more quickly if you use a command-line tool to copy the file. You can use command-line tools such as Robocopy.exe and Xcopy.exe to copy the file.:
ITsVISTA Tip 57: Add ‘Copy To’ and ‘Move To’ to your Vista right-click menu

There are many ways to copy and move files from one location to another. I tend to first open two windows, one being the source, the other the destination, and then drag the file from one to the other. Cut/Copy and Paste is another common means of getting your files were you want them to go. Another option is available in Vista, as I found at the Error Forum, but it doesn’t show up by default. Here’s how you can add Copy to Folder… and Move to Folder… options to your right-click menu. Keep reading →

When you try to install a device driver in Windows Vista, you receive an error message that states that the driver was not installed because of a file copy error.
Note: This message is generated by the driver’s Setup program. The message is not generated by Windows Vista. Therefore, the error message text may vary.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The name of the user account or the path of the driver source contains quad-byte Unicode characters. For example, the current user name contains Chinese characters.
- The driver package uses Lempel-Ziv (LZ) compression.

Consider the following scenario:
- On a Windows Vista-based computer, you copy files to or from another computer on a network.
- This other computer is a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer or a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.
- These files are each 100 megabytes (MB) or larger.
- You use Windows Explorer to copy the files. For example, you use a drag-and-drop operation in Windows Explorer to copy the files.
In this scenario, the file transfer operation may be slightly slower than expected. This problem occurs only in certain hardware configurations. This problem does not occur when you copy files to or from another Windows Vista-based computer.
