Where Adobe Shockwave Version 10 did not officially support Microsoft Windows Vista, Version 11, released yesterday, now does. Though many were able to use the previous version, 64-bit users especially found many issues trying to get it to run properly, or at all. The updated version will work with Internet Explorer 7, as well as Firefox 2.0, and I’ll be installing it on my 64-bit system later today, to confirm it works there. Keep reading →

The December 2007 Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update is a package of software updates that address common application compatibility issues in Windows Vista. When you try to install and to run certain legacy games or applications in Windows Vista, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

• The game, the application, or the firmware may not be installed correctly.
• The game, the application, or the firmware may cause system instability.
• The primary functions of the game, the application, or the firmware may not work correctly.

This update improves application compatibility in Windows Vista by using the following methods:

• The update places a hard block on the application. A hard block prevents an application that is incompatible with Windows Vista from running on the operating system.
• The update places a soft block on the application. A soft block provides notification when an application that is incompatible with Windows Vista starts to run.
• The update improves the application’s functionality in Windows Vista.

These methods apply to the following application that were added to the update:

• Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 - 7.07 - Soft blocked
• WinAntivirus Pro 2007 v5.0.356 – Soft blocked
• Webroot Software Spy Sweeper 5.0 – Hard blocked
• Omniquad Total Security 2.0.3.0 – Hard blocked
• Windows Internet Explorer 7 – Updated to improve functionality

Note If you are using Webroot Software Spy Sweeper 5.0, we recommend that you reinstall the update with the version that was released on February 5, 2008.

This update is cumulative. Therefore, it contains all fixes that were included in previous application compatibility updates. These fixes improve application compatibility in Windows Vista for the following applications:
