Consider the following scenario:
- You create a volume on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). This volume does not have a drive letter or a mount point. The unique access method is the volume’s GUID.
- You try to download one or more files from a Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) server to this volume. Or, you try to upload one or more files from this volume to a BITS server.
In this scenario, the BITS client cannot download or upload the files.

When updates are being downloaded from Windows Update on a Windows Vista-based computer, you may experience the following symptoms:
