You have antivirus software installed on a Windows Vista-based computer. When you start the system, it may take a long time to log on to the computer. If you examine the Setupapi.app.log file in the %SystemRoot%Inf folder, you may notice that the file size is very large. Additionally, the size of the Setupapi.app.log file continues to grow every time that you start the computer.

Note: Any log file of 5 megabytes or more is considered large in this article. Additionally, there are several Setupapi related log files in this article.

You have a Windows Vista-based computer that has an antivirus application installed. However, Windows Security Center does not detect that a valid antivirus application is installed on the computer. Instead, Windows Security Center displays the following statuses for firewall and malware protection:

  • Firewall: Windows Firewall is turned off.
  • Malware protection: Windows did not find antivirus software on this computer.

On a Windows Vista based computer that runs Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 client, you enable EFS for documents on the Desktop or in the Documents folder. After you reboot the computer and log on again, the encrypted files cannot be decrypted.

The problem does not occur when folders are encrypted in other locations.

Also, when Symantec AntiVirus is uninstalled the problem goes away.
