“0x000000FE” Stop error message when you try to resume a Windows Vista SP2-based or Windows Server 2008 SP2-based computer from sleep

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
  • The computer has a USB device attached.
  • You try to resume the computer from sleep.

In this scenario, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

Stop 0x000000FE (00000008, 00000006, 00000001, parameter4)

Note: The last parameter in the Stop error message may vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
