A program that requires you to use a smart card stops responding in a remote desktop connection in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista

Consider the following scenario:

  • You make a remote desktop connection to a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Vista Service SP2.
  • You run a program that requires you to use a smart card in the remote desktop connection.
  • The program exits without calling the smart card exit routines.
Note: The SCardEndTransaction function is called in the smart card exit routines.
  • You run a program that requires you to use the smart card.

In this scenario, all programs that require you to use the smart card do not successfully connect to the smart card and stop responding.
