The settings on the “Define power buttons and turn on password protection” dialog box may not match the Advanced power settings
In Windows Vista, if the current active power scheme is not “Balanced” and if you modified the power options manually through the Advanced Power options dialog box, you may find that the settings on the”Define power buttons and turn on password protection” dialog box might not match the real settings in the current active power scheme.
For Example:
- The “Require a password on wakeup” policy in the Balanced scheme is enabled.
- The current active scheme is not Balanced and the “Require a password on wakeup” policy in the active scheme is disabled.
In such a situation, when we try to check the setting on the “Define power buttons and turn on password protection” dialog box, the “Require a password on wakeup” policy is shown as Enabled. However, the real policy applied to the system is not enabled since power manager load the policies from the active scheme, not the preferred scheme. They actually don’t match.
