An SNMP transport is disabled, and SNMP Event ID 1501 is logged when lots of SNMP queries occur on a computer that is running Windows Vista SP1 or Windows Server 2008

Consider the following scenario:

  • The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) feature is enabled on a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008.
  • Lots of SNMP queries occur on the computer.

In this scenario, one of the SNMP transports, such as the IPv4 transport, is disabled, and the SNMP service no longer accepts incoming traffic. Therefore, applications and services that depend on the SNMP service may be unable to run.

Additionally, the following event is logged in the System log:

Event Type: System
Source: SNMP
Event ID: 1501
The SNMP Service encountered an error while setting up the incoming transports. The IPX transport has been dropped out.
