- You are running a Windows XP-based computer.
- You create an End User Defined Character (EUDC) font.
- You deploy the EUDC font to a Windows Vista-based computer or to a Windows Server 2008-based computer.

In Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008, software updates use a new technology to install .msu files. To manually install .msu files in a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 environment, you must have the Wusa.exe tool installed. However, this tool returns a “1 (S_FALSE)” error code when either of the following conditions is true:
- You try to install a software update that is already installed on the computer.
- You try to install a software update that does not apply to the computer.

When you play a video in a video playback application that uses Media Foundation on a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), you receive an error message. Additionally, the application crashes.
For example, when you play a video by using Media Center in full-screen mode, you receive the following error message:
Media Center has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program.

The TCP protocol uses a three-way handshake to establish a TCP connection. The last interaction in the three-way handshake is a TCP Acknowledgement (ACK) package. However, in Windows Vista, the Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) inspection occurs only after the three-way handshake is completed. Therefore, any data that is piggybacked on the ACK package may bypass the WFP inspection process.
Note: A payload can legitimately piggyback on the ACK package.
This issue affects socket applications that use NetBIOS communication on a Windows Vista-based computer.
