On a Windows Vista SP1-based computer, the SCardReleaseContext function returns a “0×80100004 (SCARD_E_INVALID_PARAMETER)” error code when the Cryptographic Service Provider process closes

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are running a Windows Vista Service Pack 1-based computer.
  • You use a custom Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) that is based on the winscard module.

When the CSP process closes in this scenario, the SCardReleaseContext function returns a “0×80100004 (SCARD_E_INVALID_PARAMETER)” error code.
