This service helps make your portable devices, like a Zune, accessible to programs within Vista, like Media Player. If you don’t have any portable devices that you want available to software within Vista, you can safely disable this service. Note that an iPod does not use this service to communicate with iTunes, so you can still disable it if you have an iPod.
