One of the extra features provided by Windows Vista Ultimate (and Enterprise) is multiple language capability. As Walker News points out, these Multilingual User Interface (MUI) packages, which have been available through Windows Update for some time, are now available on the web for direct download. The downloads are in the 200MB range each, all 36 32-bit versions are listed below.
The Walker News website has info that suggests the packs can be installed on other versions of Vista. I tried installing two on Vista Premium and found this not to be the case. The supposed workaround to make it work likely only allows the MUI to be used like a Language Interface Pack (LIP), which only allows one language, and a ‘parent’ language to fall back on should the LIP not include a required translation. This could still be useful for some, as my search for LIPs for Vista has yet to turn up any downloadable files.
