Christmas is obviously a popular time to get gifts, and these days, computers are a pretty common gift. With most new computers now coming with Windows Vista pre-installed, the Windows Vista install base is likely to see a bump. Did you get a Vista computer for Christmas? I got Vista Ultimate approximately 3 weeks before Christmas and I hated it; I was annoyed because I had to upgrade my hardware and the operating system did no seem any better than XP. After living with it for a while, I love it, and can’t live without it. I am surprised myself by the turnaround. I almost posted negative comments a couple of times.

@Til: Glad to hear it worked out for you. Seems most people that don’t like Vista are those that upgraded, typically because their computer is underpowered. Nice to know some through it!

I am impressed with the patience Til had. Many people find that Vista will grow on them. Well done!

Try to put the windowsPE 2.0 or 2.1 on a usb-stick & try to boot with it!
Realy well documented! (or do i have bad luck with my amd-machines?)
I’m trying vista from beta 2 - and after one year it’s still not ready for normal daily use.
I’m not saying it’s less safe, but the price for the extra security is high - too high - and the drivers/hardware-support are the main problem.
Hardware is cheap - software development = extremely expensive. And while hardware is changing every 3 to 6 months???

Been experiencing vista for like 1 week and well… it`s ok, i mean, it works….
but with my laptop hardware XP will work smoothly (new toshiba core 2 duo 1.73, 2 gigs ram), unlike vista with so much hardware requirements. that`s my biggest complain, everything else is ok.

Well I’ve loved XP Pro for years, and now have a new Acer with Vista Premium. With the 3GB of instaled RAM, it does seem to load faster than I’d hear it might.
I also used the Belkin Easy Tranfer cable and had no problems with it whatsoever (unlike a lot of reviews I had read.)
However, be aware that if you try Microsoft’s Beta program which with also will transfer your “programs ” (not just settings and accounts) from your XP computer to your Vista one, you’ll likely find that a lot of your programs won’t come over because the software can’t find various “installer” files on your XP machine.
Like most though, I hated Vista royally for the first few days. Now I’m finding I don’t hate it as much but I’m still having issues finding things where they used to be.
I was not fond of how they got rid of Outlook Express, but then I accidently found that it had been replaced with WinMail which seems pretty similar.
Overall on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being tops, at this early point in time, I’d give Vista a 5. Not very scientific at all … just personal feelings.
