In August Microsoft released a ‘Cumulative update rollup for Windows Vista’, which despite it’s name, was a hotfix (KB936003). Hotfixes are a sort of ‘beta’ in the patch world, intended to solve a problem, but not fully tested for quality. Apparently Microsoft has now had sufficient time to test this hotfix, and has now released it as an actual ‘Update’.
Called ‘Cumulative update rollup for USB core components in Windows Vista’, KB941600 is one of those ‘reliability’ releases Microsoft promised we’d see in addition to SP1. Microsoft describes it this way:
This article describes an update rollup that resolves some reliability issues in the USB core components in Windows Vista. You will achieve better reliability in various scenarios by installing this update.
The update fixes 13 different issues covered in corresponding Knowledge Base articles, and another 8 that had not been previously documented. It comes in two flavors, and can be downloaded now:
