MS07-045: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer

Comments: Following are known issues with this update:

  • Controls that prompt before they are loaded
    Note: This issue occurs on Web sites that do not use the recommended techniques. This issue is resolved by using the techniques that are described on the following Microsoft Web site

    When certain controls are loaded on a Web page, the controls are not correctly masked by the functionality of this update. These controls include controls that are used in Macromedia Shockwave Director, in QuickTime Player, and in Virtools Web Player. When Windows determines that a control is inactive, the system prompts the user before the control is loaded.

  • Using monikers is no longer supported in Internet Explorer. For more information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    After installing this update (Vista 32-bit) I was not able to connect to the internet anymore using Microsoft Internet Explorer, while there was a live connection to the internet (e.g. skype or outlook worked ok).
    After uninstalling this update, all worked ok again.
    Any idea what is wrong?

    Same thing for me, which is how I found this page: this update causes me to lose IE, which kind of sux since other updates have caused me to lose Mozilla, which is how I found myself relying on IE. I uninstalled all 8 updates released last night and installed them one at a time. Everything worked fine until update #7, which was this one - IE stopped being able to access the internet both through wireless, as well as a direct LAN connection. Recommend against installing this update. For that matter, I’m turning windows update off.

    L’histoire se repète, as the French say. This update seems to have the same story as KB933566 of june 2007. No surfing, no mail. The internet connection stays live though, proven by the ability to ftp, receive new windows updates and ping using dns to resolve addresses. After uninstalling the update surfing the internet works again. (Mail has never worked again at my pc since KB933566, though uninstalled).

    I guess we have to learn to live with a car, that doesn’t drive anymore after having been taken to the garage, until we undo one of the repairs. After having coped with the research to find out which repair to undo, that is.

    Tip for new victims: uninstall & hide the update and hope that it isn’t as critical as MS makes us believe.

    Question to Joe: I understand that some updates with the same KB-numbers are applied to XP too. Is that true? If it is, my intention to downgrade back to XP is useless.

    funny thing - I, like so many, uninstalled KB937143 and IE7 worked again. Overnight, it installed it again - yay! MAKE me use Firefox, thats cool. “Diagnose the problem”? OK sure, amuse me…. “there is nothing wrong with your internet connection”. No kidding? There’s something wrong with your testing methods for your friggin latest greatest OS and browser, nimwads!

    Yah, I forgot about the diagnosis, but mine was the same as yours: nothing wrong. Which of course means that when IE is not working, it’s working just like it’s supposed to. Unfortunately for me, I lost Firefox during an earlier update, so I’ll have to go back and do this process all over again from last month’s “fixes.”

    I guess I shouldn’ta been so “Surprised” after all… CHECK YOUR FIREWALL APPS, folks… For me: Norton…. Remove the iexplore and ieuser executables access, then re-add and you oughta be good, as am I.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem but only with Vista Home Premium. I also use Norton 360.
    Could you epxlain your comment:
    For me: Norton…. Remove the iexplore and ieuser executables access, then re-add and you oughta be good, as am I.

    I also don’t see ieuser listed in the firewall program rules
