Many users have had a problem installing one of the latest Windows Updates for Vista, KB935807. The post I did about the problem is one of the most popular I’ve posted, with over 3000 hits in just over a week, and between the two posts on the update, there are over 100 comments. But in that same time, no word or workaround from Microsoft. Thanks to a reader from Norway, we now have a solution.
In the comments for my post, a reader named Kim left the following suggestion:
Okey folks… Here in Norway we made a fix for this kb935807 install-error. This fix will work for ALL who have trouble with installing KB935807. Go this way.. C-windows-system32-logfiles. Under the folder “logfiles” you create a new folder called “firewall” Now, KB935807 will install SUSESSFULL;) I`m NOT impressed of Microsoft. Good luck folks;)
It appears that anyone that didn’t have a problem installing this update had a folder called C:\windows\system32\logfiles\firewall. Those with a problem don’t have that folder. The solution appears to be as easy as creating a folder called FireWall inside the C:\windows\system32\logfiles folder. So far six readers have confirmed that it has worked for them, and none have said it hasn’t.
Give it a try, and let us know in the comments how it goes either way. Thanks Kim for the solution so many have been seeking!

For what it’s worth, MS has added this work-around to the security bulletin:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q935807
Not sure who found it first, just happy it was acknowledged and fixed.

This solution doesn’t work for me. My symptoms are the same – failed install, multiple reboots, persistent prompting from Windows Update but my error code is not the same – I’m getting error 80004005.
The Norwegian solution shown on the Microsoft site claims to deal with error code 80070002 and obviously works for some readers but it doesn’t help me.

create C:\windows\system32\logfiles folder is unnecessary, because I haven’t that folder and this patch has been installed without problems

[...] Another solution says that you simply have to create a firewall folder in the location C:windowssystem32logfiles and this will solve the problem. [...]
