Error message when you use a third-party scanning program such as IrfanView in Windows Vista: “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly”

Consider the following scenario:

  • You perform a scan in Windows Vista by using a third-party program such as IrfanView.
  • During the scan operation, you click Cancel.

In this scenario, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Program_name has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

There is a download that resolves this issue. See Hotfixes for details. This issue is resolved in SP1.
