Error message when you configure the Media Center feature or when a scheduled program guide download occurs in Windows Vista: “Windows Media Center Store Update Manager stopped working”

In Windows Vista, you may receive an error message that resembles the following when you configure the Media Center feature:

Windows Media Center Store Update Manager stopped working and was closed.

A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.

You may also receive this error message when a scheduled Electronic Program Guide download occurs.

When this problem occurs, an error message that resembles the following may be logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event ID: 1000
Description:
Faulting application mcupdate.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0×4549b55f, faulting module KERNEL32.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0×4549bd80, exception code 0xe0434f4d, fault offset 0×0001b09e, process id 0×1d74, application start time 0×01c79cc85730cdbd.
