Hi, our Vista Laptop installed this fix this morning together with another security patch. Once installed neither Windows Mail or IE could access the internet. POP errors and cannot display page errors. Google Talk and Mozilla worked fine. I backed out KB933566 and IE worked again. Am I alone ?

This update replaced KB931768, which caused some people to get ‘Navcancl’ errors if they had moved their temporary internet folder for IE. Did you by chance move your temporary internet folder?

I can`t connect IE and mail soft after update installed.
I remove update and now all right.

I too have uninstalled this undate
then right clicked on it and set it as hidden so that windows will still auto-update without re-installing this update
I have spent hours looking for info on this with no luck

Have any of you moved your temporary internet files to a different location? Are you running a third-party virus protection package that might have interfered with the install of the patch? We’ll need more information about your situations to see what you all have in common, which would help determine the cause of this issue.

Robert, you might try disabling your Norton Security, then install the update, and see if it works. It’s possible Norton Security is preventing something from installing properly. Let us know if it makes any difference.

    Hi there,

I have tried as Joe said and Robert did for 5 hours now but nothing happended. I did as follows:

    Run> msconfig
tick off any services and startups that related to Symantec

    restart

    install the update

    restart again

Check IE/window mail without turn on Symantec yet.

BUT sadly nothing worked at all.

My system is: Vista home premium
    Norton preinstalled
symantec antivirus installed to replace Norton after its expiry (soon).
    IE7

    HP Pavilion DV2000

    Pls help me out.

    Thanks

I experienced the same problem after KB933566 was installed. IE and Mail didn’t work anymore, while I was still able to FTP and to connect to a VPN and to receive additional Windows updates. Firefox produced the same result as IE. So my conclusion was that http and mail protocols are affected.
My system is an Acer Aspire 94XX with Vista Home Premium preinstalled and Norton Protection against malware. I never touched my temp internet folder.
As soon as I have access to my own system again I will try the advice above.

My problem was not with a Vista PC but Windows 2000 SP4 with Office 2000 SR-1a. However, I thought my experience might help. After installing KB933566 new email messages in Outlook would not open and immediately closed Outlook with an error message. I also could not enter text into text boxes on websites such as search engines. My remedy was to reinstall IE6 and reapply updates except for KB933566. All is back to normal and I have turned off Automatic Updates until I find a fix. I have 6 other identical PC’s in regards to the OS and Office but they did not have any problems with the update. The only difference between this one and the other 6 is that the problematic PC was running Kaspersky Internet Security version 6. The others were all running Norton Internet Security 2006. Hope this info helps.

I followed the advice and tried these steps:
    1. Roll back KB933566. Result: IE works. Windows Mail doesn’t. Socket Error 10061. Error code 0×800CCC0E.
    2. Uncheck all components in Norton Protection.
    3. Reinstall KB933566. Result: IE and Windows Mail do not work.

So I have chosen for the workaround keeping KB933566 uninstalled. Unfortunately Vista forces the reinstall after two days. So I have to find out how to hide updates from Vista. The description in MSDN tells me to click “Custom” at the Windows Update tool. However, there is no “Custom” or Dutch (my locale) equivalent. Q1: Does any of you have a hint for hiding?
Q2: Does any of you experience the socket error on Windows Mail?

I have the same problem running windows vista ultimate. I had to rollback the update and disable updates to prevent it from reinstalling. While I had Norton preconfigured, but had removed it prior to receiving this update.

I read tip 59 and banned out KB933566. Thanks Joe. As I like to close matters positively, I realize that one good thing that this update brought me was knowledge of ItsVista dot com, that I wasn’t aware of before. I’ll be back :-)

Same Problem here. I’ve got an HP n9040 without preinstall. Just installed Vista Home and made update. There are no Temp Files or AV Solutions, but after update KB933566 HTTP and SMTP does not work.

    Other solutions?

I have a similar problem in XP. IE seems to work fine, but Outlook 2002 has issues. When opening HTML emails, there is a 10-15 second delay, then the header info opens, but the body (HTML portion) takes longer. If I try to write a new HTML email, the address and subject type normally, but in the email body it takes 15-20 seconds after keys are pressed before the text shows up on the screen. If I change email format to Rich Text or Plain Text there is no delay. Uninstally KB933566 removes the problem.

One month after the problem, there is no official fix or an apology for the issue at all. So sad!

Hardly have good things from supplier after you have paid your bill in full, it’s a rule.

    Good luck poor fellows.

I spent over 3 hours with windows tech support over this, and had been experiencing the same problems with Windows Vista Home Premium, losing internet and Outlook connectivity. Removing 933566 solves, but the tech support people were unable to tell me how to prevent future updates from installing, so I would definitely like to hear how to hide or prevent this update from occurring while allowing auto updates.
Is the itunes connectivity problems I and others have related to any of this?
    Thanks

I had this problem in XP w/Office 2003 installed. It came up after installing Sharepoint Designer 2007. Running Office Diagnostics from Sharepoint Designer solved the issue.
