Video shows corruption when seeking H.264 or VC-1 content

Symptoms:
When using the timeline widget to seek while playing h.264 or VC-1 content, the video may appear corrupted. In most cases when this occurs normal playback should recover in a few seconds. Otherwise, clicking the “Previous� or “Next� seek buttons resumes normal playback.
