The Windows Vista Blog has jumped in pretty quickly and clarified Microsoft’s stance on the 32-bit Windows client. The General Manager in the Microsoft Windows Server Division announced at WinHEC 2007 yesterday that Windows Server 2008 would be the last 32-bit server OS. Some in attendance took that to mean the client would see the same fate, and reported as much, prompting my post earlier today. Microsoft has now stated that “While Windows Vista includes both 32-bit and 64-bit and there is a growing community of drivers for 64-bit Windows Vista we have not decided when Windows Client will follow Windows Server and become 64-bit only.” Notice they’re not saying the next client WILL have a 32-bit version, they are simply stating that they aren’t ready to say anything either way.
Microsoft says ‘Not so fast’ on ending 32-bit client
