If you deal with video at all (and these days who doesn’t) then here’s the latest version of a package that includes all the codecs you need. It includes info on getting the 64-bit versions as well.

No one has any reason to like WGA (accept for Microsoft), but Corrine points out another reason to like it even less: advertising. This amounts to Microsoft forcing you to view their ads as a condition to obtaining updates and additional features.
