If you’re running Vista Home Basic, a TabletPC or UMPC, or just don’t have a very powerful video card, then you aren’t running Vista’s new Aero interface. If that’s the case, have you tried running the Movie Maker program? If you did you’d know it won’t run, and Microsoft just did something about it.
Microsoft’s Vista version of Movie Maker is dependent on Aero, so it you can’t or aren’t running it, you won’t be running Movie Maker either. Instead, when you try you’ll see the following error:
Windows Movie Maker cannot start because your video card does not support the required level of hardware acceleration or hardware acceleration is not available
On April 6th Microsoft released Movie Maker 2.6, which is not Aero dependent. It does require that Movie Maker be installed already, so if you uninstalled it, you’re gonna have a problem. Grab the download from this download page and enjoy!
