Error results when you run the “gpupdate /force” command on a computer that is running Windows Vista: “User policy could not be updated successfully”
When you run the gpupdate /force command on a computer that is running Windows Vista, the following error results are returned:
Updating Policy…
User policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors were encountered:
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following:
a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller.
b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
Computer Policy update has completed successfully.To diagnose the failure, review the event log or invoke gpmc.msc to access information about Group Policy results.
Note: In these results, the phrase “one of more of the following” incorrectly appears instead of the phrase “one or more of the following.”
You experience this problem if the User Group Policy loopback processing mode policy setting is enabled on the computer.
