If you followed my last tip on how to reset your password, then you currently have no password. In Vista, that isn’t a big deal; Since Windows XP, accounts with blank passwords cannot be used to logon to a computer remotely, so you only need to worry about those that have direct access to your PC. If there are other people that use your computer, you may then wish to have at least some level of security by assigning a password.
To set or change your password:
- Press CTR+ALT+DEL. You’ll see a screen with a menu of options. Click on Change a password….
- If you already have a password, enter it in the Old Password field, otherwise, leave it blank.
- Enter your new password in the New Password field and the Confirm Password field. If you need help thinking of a good one, here’s a post with a tip on how to create a strong password that you can remember. Once you’ve typed it in twice, click the blue arrow to proceed.
- Your password is changed! Click the OK button to continue on your merry way. If you had any services or features that used your credentials to login, you may need to change them manually.

Probably after step 1, T&K was unable to go any further since you didn’t indicate that one must click the “Change a password” button…

I tried changing my password as described, but then I get an “Access is Denied” errror. I am using Windows Vista Business.

hi. i have just 1 account on my laptop with admin privilledges. when i try to change the pass for this account it always gives me “incorrect password”. notice that i can logon just fine with that password. i just can’t change it! any thoughts plz?

When I try to change my vista password, it gives me “incorrect password” but i can logon just fine with that password. I can’t seem to chance it! Any advice how to do this?

do you know your password? If you known, you can change the passwords via control panel.
Step 1: Open the “Control Panel
Step 2: Click the “User Account
Step 3: Select the account you wanna delet the password.
Step 4: Delete the Password
If you forgot the password or lost the password, as following,
1. Log onto a computer that can link to the Internet. Download Windows Password Unlocker 4.0 from http://sn.im/wpu and decompress it on that PC. Note that: there is a .ISO file. Burn the .ISO file to a CD.
2.Get out the newly created CD and insert it to the locked computer.
3.Re-boot the locked computer and then follow the process of instructions. Just after a few steps, the old password will be removed.
