Error message when you restart a Windows Vista-based computer: “Windows Calendar has stopped working”

You create an appointment and a new task in Windows Calendar on a Windows Vista-based computer. However, when you restart the computer, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Windows Calendar has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Additionally, an error message that resembles the following may be logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event ID: 1000
Description:
Faulting application WinCal.exe, version 6.0.6000.20543, time stamp 0×45de6fd9, faulting module WinCal.exe, version 6.0.6000.20543, time stamp 0×45de6fd9, exception code 0×80000003, fault offset 0×0009ee9a, process id 0×179c, application start time 0×01c761104a05e707.
