ITsVISTA Tip 27: Disable Vista’s Aero ‘Glass’ Transparency

TipsI‘ve been using Vista for a while now, and the fancy Aero transparency is really no big deal. I’ve seen a number of sources that say it doesn’t slow down your system, so you probably don’t need to disable it in the interest of increasing performance. If you just don’t like the way it looks, Tech-Recipes suggests it is something you can disable.

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Personalize.
    Personalize
  2. Click on Window Color and Appearance

  3. Uncheck the Enable transparency box and click OK
    Disable transparency

I’ve heard that aero makes your graphics processor work harder, so uses more mains or battery power. Since I use a laptop on battery quite a bit, I’ve turned Aero off to increase the run time.
